Greek international striker Evangelos Mantzios says he is ready "to give my all" after making a surprise loan move to Cypriot title hopefuls Anorthosis Famagusta FC.
The 26-year-old has not appeared for Panathinaikos FC since May, though he did play all 90 minutes of Greece's FIFA World Cup play-off first leg against Ukraine last month. Otto Rehhagel's side prevailed in the second meeting, and with the finals coming up this summer Mantzios has decided to move in search of regular first-team football. "I had other choices from various sides but both me and my manager believe that Anorthosis were the best option," he said.
Mantzios will join compatriots Traianos Dellas, Nicos Katsavakis and Ioannis Skopelitis at Slavoljub Muslin's side, who lie a point behind Division A leaders APOEL FC at the winter break. "I'm glad to have come to such a big club," added the forward, who spent part of last term on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt. "I want to play football and I am ready to give my all for a club that wants to win both the league title and the cup." Anorthosis's fourth winter signing, Mantzios will fill the void left by Kavala FC-bound Łukasz Sosin.
