Champions AC Sparta Praha sealed their second Czech Super Cup after defeating FC Viktoria Plzeň 3-0.
Last year's double winners started the season in impressive fashion with a 7-0 victory against FC Levadia Tallinn in the second qualifying round first leg of their UEFA Champions League tie, and Vítězslav Lavička's men were on song again with goals from David Lafata, Ladislav Krejčí and Michal Breznaník earning another comfortable success.
The capital team could have been one goal down after five minutes but Jan Kovařík clattered the bar with his penalty kick. Within five minutes, Sparta took the lead as Lafata struck in the aftermath of Bořek Dočkal's free-kick – his sixth goal of the campaign already after he scored five times against Levadia. Czech international Krejčí added the second goal on 33 minutes and one of Sparta's summer acquisitions, Breznaník, rounded off the scoring in the final minute.
"We value this similarly to our league or Czech Cup win," said captain Lafata. "We defeated Plzeň by the biggest margin ever in the Super Cup, though we were a bit lucky at the beginning as they wasted a penalty. But then we scored after a set piece and this influenced the rest of the game as it allowed us to wait for the counterattacks."
Sparta complete their tie with Levadia on Tuesday and will hope to face either Malmö FF or FK Ventspils in the third qualifying round.
