Chelsea FC continued their unblemished start to the Premier League season by overwhelming Blackpool FC 4-0, while a hat-trick from Dimitar Berbatov helped Manchester United FC to victory against Liverpool FC.
Having won 4-1 win at MŠK Žilina on Wednesday, the Blues were quickly into their stride at Stamford Bridge, striking inside two minutes through Salomon Kalou. Didier Drogba and two from Florent Malouda – his fifth and sixth league goals of the season – completed the scoring before the break as Carlo Ancelotti's team made it five wins out of five.
Earlier in the day, Berbatov's 84th-minute header proved decisive against Liverpool. The Reds had come from two down at Old Trafford thanks to a penalty and a free-kick in quick succession from Steven Gerrard, Berbatov having completed a double of his own with a sumptuous overhead kick just before the hour.
United sit third, four points behind Chelsea but three ahead of Manchester City FC, who won 2-0 at third-bottom Wigan Athletic FC. Carlos Tévez (43) and Yaya Touré (70), with his first in English football, were on target for Roberto Mancini's side.
