Manchester City held as debutants strike

Manchester City FC moved only a point closer to the Premier League pacesetters following a 2-2 draw at Birmingham City FC, on a night when three debutants scored for their new clubs.

Manchester City FC were held to a 2-2 draw at struggling Birmingham City FC, while Luis Suárez made an instant impact for Liverpool FC.

City, beaten 1-0 at Aston Villa FC in their last league outing, were in front on four minutes, Carlos Tévez clipping in his 15th league goal this term. Nikola Žigić equalised before Aleksandar Kolarov's free-kick (41) restored the visitors' lead. Craig Gardner's penalty (77) ensured the spoils were shared and left City eight points adrift of leaders Manchester United FC having played a game more.

Tottenham Hotspur FC won their first league fixture in three attempts, Peter Crouch's early header from Rafael van der Vaart's cross proving decisive at Blackburn Rovers FC. Liverpool, in seventh, continued their revival with a third successive league victory, debutant Suárez coming off the bench to score in a 2-0 home win against Stoke City FC. Fulham FC are 12th having prevailed 1-0 at home to Newcastle United FC.

Daniel Sturridge, meanwhile, scored a last-gasp winner on his Bolton Wanderers FC bow which left opponents Wolverhampton Wanderers FC bottom. The previous incumbents, West Ham United FC, overcame Blackpool FC 3-1, Robbie Keane among the scorers on his first appearance for the club.
