Goals galore as Newcastle stun Arsenal

Saturday's eight games yielded a record 41 goals, with Newcastle United FC recovering from 4-0 down to draw with Arsenal FC and Manchester United FC losing their unbeaten record.

Newcastle United FC staged an astonishing fightback to draw 4-4 with Arsenal FC after trailing 4-0 as a record 41 goals were scored in the Premier League on Saturday.

The result appeared beyond doubt when Arsenal established a commanding lead inside 26 minutes thanks in part to Robin van Persie's double. Newcastle, though, took advantage of Abou Diaby's dismissal (50), reducing their arrears through Joey Barton (two penalties) either side of Leon Best's effort.

Cheik Tioté (87) completed a stunning comeback with a 20-metre volley and thereby ensured the Magpies became the first Premier League club to gain a point having fallen four behind. There were also eight goals at Goodison Park, where Louis Saha scored half as Everton FC defeated Blackpool FC 5-3.

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, meanwhile, provided another shock by inflicting Manchester United FC's first loss in 30 top-flight matches. The 2-1 reverse means the Red Devils are four points clear of Arsenal and five ahead of Manchester City FC, who triumphed 3-0 against West Bromwich Albion FC courtesy of a hat-trick on his 27th birthday from Carlos Tévez. Tottenham Hotspur FC, in fifth, beat Bolton Wanderers FC 2-1.

Elsewhere, Wigan Athletic FC edged Blackburn Rovers FC 4-3, Aston Villa FC drew 2-2 with Fulham FC while Sunderland AFC succumbed 3-2 at Stoke City FC. The 41 goals eclipsed the previous Premier League record of 36 on a single Saturday set on 27 November last year.
