A double from Javier Hernández set Manchester United FC on their way to a 4-0 victory at struggling Wigan Athletic FC which extended the Red Devils' advantage at the top to four points.
Hernández turned in Nani's low cross on 17 minutes, and struck his second (74) after being set up by Wayne Rooney, who increased the lead soon after. Fabio (87) rounded things off with his first goal for United.
With second-placed Arsenal FC playing Birmingham City FC in the League Cup final on Sunday, Sir Alex Ferguson's team could be seven points clear by the time their nearest rivals next play, provided they overcome Chelsea FC on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Jermaine Beckford struck twice as Everton FC recorded a 2-0 home triumph against Sunderland AFC, while Chelsea loanee Daniel Sturridge struck his fourth goal in as many appearances for Bolton Wanderers FC, in a 1-1 draw with ten-man Newcastle United FC.
Aston Villa FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, meanwhile, both recorded convincing home wins. The former were 4-1 victors against Blackburn Rovers FC, whereas Wolves − out of the bottom three as a result − triumphed 4-0 against Blackpool FC, who had DJ Campbell (43) dismissed.
