Fulham name Jol as new manager

Former AFC Ajax and Tottenham Hotspur FC boss Martin Jol has been appointed the new manager at Fulham FC following the resignation of Mark Hughes last week.

Martin Jol has been appointed the new manager at Fulham FC following the departure of Mark Hughes last week.

The Dutch coach has signed a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months at the Premier League club, who were runners-up in the 2010 UEFA Europa League final. Jol said: "I am very happy to join Fulham. It is a club with good, solid foundations. I am looking forward to being part of the Fulham family and thank the chairman for the trust he's shown in me."

Former AFC Ajax and Hamburger SV boss Jol has experience of managing in the English top flight, having spent three largely successful years at Tottenham Hotspur FC between 2004 and 2007. He had been out of football since last December when he left the Ajax job.

His predecessor Hughes resigned on Thursday after one season at Craven Cottage in which he guided the side to an eighth-placed finish. Fulham enter next term's UEFA Europa League in the first qualifying round after gaining their spot through the UEFA Respect Fair Play rankings.
