Sunderland AFC have bolstered their forward line with the signing of England Under-21 international Connor Wickham from Ipswich Town FC for a fee in the region of €8.9m, rising to a possible €13.3m.
The 18-year-old, who has signed a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light, was Ipswich's youngest-ever player at 16 years and 11 days before going on to make 73 appearances for the Suffolk club, scoring 14 goals.
"Naturally we are absolutely delighted he has chosen to come to Sunderland," said Sunderland manager Steve Bruce. "He's still very young but he's a physical presence. With his height and style of play he'll offer us a threat in front of goal and complement our existing strikers."
Bruce added: "We have been watching him for a while now and he is improving and developing all the time. He's a great prospect and I'm sure our supporters will love watching him play."
Wickham got the winning goal in the 2010 UEFA European U17 Championship final against Spain and was a member of England's U21 squad during this summer's competition in Denmark.
