Tottenham Hotspur FC climbed up to third place in the Premier League after Emmanuel Adebayor's two goals secured a 2-0 home victory over Aston Villa FC.
Adebayor gave Spurs the lead with an acrobatic overhead kick after 14 minutes, then added a second from another Gareth Bale cross in the 40th minute. The Londoners' win was their eighth in nine league outings and came on the evening manager Harry Redknappy returned to the dugout following his recent heart operation.
For eighth-placed Villa it was a third defeat in five games since their seven-match unbeaten start to the Premier League season ended.
