Manchester City back on top after Stoke draw

Manchester City FC were held to a 1-1 draw at Stoke City FC, a result which was nontheless enough for them to go top on goal difference, while in-form Arsenal FC won again.

A deflected goal from Yaya Touré salvaged Manchester City FC a point at Stoke City FC on a day when Arsenal FC recorded their seventh successive Premier League win.

City were trailing to a spectacular Peter Crouch strike – a dipping volley from the corner of the penalty area − when Touré (76) unleashed a shot which was directed past Asmir Begović by Ryan Shawcross's head. City's failure to find a winner means Manchester United FC, who have been displaced from the summit on goal difference by Roberto Mancini's team, will return to the summit if they beat Fulham FC on Monday.

Third-placed Arsenal had no such trouble as they overcame Aston Villa FC 3-0, Kieran Gibbs among the scorers with his first league goal for the club, while the London derby between Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC, in fifth and fourth respectively, ended 0-0.

At the bottom, Wigan Athletic FC boosted their survival chances with a 2-1 triumph at Liverpool FC, who have lost five of their last six league matches, and Bolton Wanderers FC defeated Blackburn Rovers FC by the same score thanks to David Wheater's first-half headers. Elsewhere, Everton FC, Sunderland FC and Norwich City FC also won.
