Newcastle beat West Brom to close on top four

Newcastle United FC beat West Bromwich Albion FC 3-1 to consolidate sixth spot in the Premier League and move to within five points of a UEFA Champions League qualifying berth.

Newcastle United FC are only five points outside the top four after a 3-1 victory away against West Bromwich Albion FC.

January acquisition Papiss Demba Cissé opened the scoring after just six minutes at the Hawthorns. Hatem Ben Arfa was the provider on that occasion but the French international turned scorer on 12 minutes when he finished off a splendid counterattack. Ben Arfa and Cissé then combined again 11 minutes prior to half-time, the Senegal striker registering his second of the game to put Newcastle three up. Shane Long pulled one back early in the second half.

Newcastle are now eight points clear of Liverpool FC in seventh spot and trail Tottenham Hotspur FC – and a UEFA Champions League qualifying berth – by only five points.
