Manchester City FC's perfect home Premier League record was ended as they needed two late goals to draw 3-3 with Sunderland AFC while Arsenal FC suffered defeat.
City fell behind to a 31st-minute Sebastian Larsson strike, Mario Balotelli levelled from the spot two minutes before half-time but Nicklas Bentner headed Sunderland back in front before the break in a pulsating match in Manchester. Larsson then made it 3-1 on the counterattack early in the second half but, in the last five minutes, Balotelli pulled one back before Aleksandar Kolarov equalised. Manchester United FC, who play on Monday, are now two points ahead.
A run of seven league wins had taken Arsenal into the top three but they fell 2-1 at Queens Park Rangers FC, Samba Diakité opening his club account with the winner. Chelsea FC are within five points of Arsenal and two of Tottenham Hotspur FC – who play on Sunday – after a 4-2 victory at Aston Villa FC.
QPR did not escape the relegation zone as Bolton Wanderers FC came from behind to win 3-2 at last-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. Like QPR, Wigan Athletic FC moved level with fourth-bottom Blackburn Rovers FC, beating Stoke City FC 2-0.
