Alex McLeish has been dismissed as manager of Premier League side Aston Villa FC.
The Birmingham club finished 16th in the 20-team English top division following a 2-0 defeat at Norwich City FC on Sunday, which proved to be the 53-year-old McLeish's final game in charge. The former Aberdeen FC and Scotland defender took command at Villa Park last June following a spell with Villa's local rivals Birmingham City FC which ended with their relegation from the Premier League.
"The club has been disappointed with this season's results, performances and the general message these have sent to our fans," read a Villa statement. "The board wishes to assure supporters that we are conscious in every sense that Villa expects and deserves more and we will strive to deliver this."
