Maicon returns to Italy with Roma

Brazilian international Maicon has left Manchester City FC after only one season in the Premier League, agreeing a two-year contract to return to Serie A with AS Roma.

AS Roma have confirmed the signing of Brazilian international right-back Maicon from Manchester City FC on a two-year deal.

Maicon arrives back in Serie A for an undisclosed transfer fee, having spent six successful seasons with FC Internazionale Milano where he won four Scudettos, two Italian Cups and three Italian Super Cups. The defender was also a key figure in the 2009/10 campaign when the Nerazzurri claimed a historic treble – including the UEFA Champions League title – under José Mourinho.

Maicon, 31, had previously played for Cruzeiro EC and AS Monaco FC. He joined ex-Inter coach Roberto Mancini at Manchester City last term but was unable to break into the side, making only nine league appearances. Roma fans will hope the roaming full-back, capped 65 times by Brazil, will help them improve on a 2012/13 season in which they finished sixth.
