Arsenal and United victorious, Chelsea beaten

After Manchester United FC defeated Crystal Palace FC in the early kick-off, Arsenal FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC made it three wins out of four respectively and Chelsea FC lost.

Manchester United FC returned to form with a 2-0 home victory against ten-man Crystal Palace FC, on a day when Arsenal FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC respectively made it three wins out of four and Chelsea FC lost.

Without a goal in their previous two Premier League games – against Chelsea and Liverpool FC – United required a penalty in first half added time to get their noses in front. Robin van Persie scored from the spot after Kagisho Dikgacoi had been dismissed for bringing down Ashley Young.

The champions, who after the break gave debuts to Marouane Fellaini and 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj, wrapped up the points through an 81st-minute free-kick from Wayne Rooney.

Arsenal's €50m deadline day signing Mesut Özil set up the Gunners' opener, tucked away by Olivier Giroud, in a 3-1 success at struggling Sunderland AFC. Arsène Wenger's men lead the fledgling table on goals scored from north London rivals Tottenham, for whom Gylfi Sigurdsson struck twice in a 2-0 triumph over Norwich City FC.

Chelsea would have gone top had they beaten Everton in the late fixture. Instead, Steven Naismith celebrated his 27th birthday with the only goal to earn Roberto Martínez his first win as Toffees manager. Manchester City FC drew 0-0 at Stoke City FC.
