Rampant City blow United away

Sergio Agüero struck twice as Manchester City FC powered past rivals Manchester United FC 4-1 on a day when Arsenal FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC both posted victories.

Manchester City FC rattled in three quickfire goals in a convincing 4-1 defeat of rivals Manchester United FC after Arsenal FC strode to the Premier League summit.

The home team's effervescent approach to the first Manchester derby of the season yielded a 16th-minute opener, Aleksandar Kolarov darting down the left and caressing across goal for Sergio Agüero to volley in. Yaya Touré then made it two shortly before the break by tapping in Álvaro Negredo's flick-on.

Negredo was the architect again two minutes into the second half. Turning sharply on the byline, the Spain striker dissected the visiting defence with a pinpoint pass that Agüero fired beyond David de Gea. The rout was complete when Samir Nasri volleyed in Jesús Navas' delicate cross at the far post, and Wayne Rooney's sublime late free-kick did little to dampen City's spirits.

Earlier, Arsenal FC edged out Stoke City FC 3-1. Aaron Ramsey and Per Mertesacker scored either side of Geoff Cameron's leveller, before a rare Bacary Sagna goal settled matters. Meanwhile, north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur FC left it late to win 1-0 at Cardiff City AFC, Paulinho making the difference in added time.

Elsewhere, Swansea City AFC consigned Crystal Palace FC to a 2-0 reverse thanks to goals from Michu and Nathan Dyer.
