Fernando Torres scored a 90th-minute winner as Chelsea FC defeated Manchester City FC 2-1 and moved into second place on goal difference in the Premier League.
The hosts were on course for their fifth consecutive victory in all competitions when Torres, who a couple of minutes earlier had fired over from close range with only Joe Hart to beat, outpaced Gaël Clichy and squared for André Schürrle to tap in.
City levelled four minutes into the second half, Sergio Agüero beating Petr Čech with a powerful shot, but Torres had the last word, seizing on a misunderstanding between Hart and Matija Nastasić to register his first league goal of the campaign.
Tottenham Hotspur FC are a point worse off in fourth after Roberto Soldado's third penalty of the season consigned visitors Hull City AFC to a 1-0 loss. In the early game, the Wear-Tyne derby, Sunderland AFC overcame Newcastle United FC 2-1 at the Stadium of Light for their first league win since 20 April.
With the fixture level heading into the final six minutes, Fabio Borini received Jozy Altidore's lay-off and fired a swerving shot beyond Tim Krul. Mathieu Debuchy had equalised for Newcastle, cancelling out Steven Fletcher's early header. The other match – Swansea City AFC v West Ham United FC – ended goalless.
