Two Jesús Navas goals bookended a stunning 6-0 win for Manchester City FC at home against Tottenham Hotspur FC on a day when Cardiff City AFC grabbed an added-time goal to hold Manchester United FC.
Spurs had only conceded six times in the Premier League before this encounter, but their defensive rigidity was absent from the off. Hugo Lloris miscued a routine clearance, and though he parried a Sergio Agüero shot away from goal, the France goalkeeper could do nothing to prevent Navas' impeccable first-time return curling back over him. Álvaro Negredo's follow-up to Agüero's saved chip ricocheted in off Sandro on the goal line for City's second, before Agüero himself tucked in a third before the break.
The visitors' afternoon worsened when a rampaging Yaya Touré provided Agüero with a simple finish – the Argentinian's tenth of the season taking him top of the scoring charts – and Negredo (55) spun to rifle in a fifth. Navas then raced onto a long ball to compound Spurs' misery in added time.
Meanwhile, United went ahead twice in the Welsh capital but were forced to settle for a point, leaving themselves seven points off the top. Wayne Rooney put the visitors ahead, but the lead was quickly cancelled out by Fraizer Campbell. Patrice Evra headed the champions back in front, but Kim Bo-Kyung turned in an added-time free-kick to deny David Moyes' men the three points.
