Swansea see off United

Swansea City AFC earned a dramatic 2-1 third-round win at Manchester United FC and West Ham United FC lost 5-0 at Nottingham Forest FC, but Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC won.

Swansea City AFC secured a dramatic 2-1 FA Cup third-round win at Manchester United FC and West Ham United FC lost 5-0 at Nottingham Forest FC, but Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC both progressed.

Manchester United fell behind to a 12th-minute Wayne Routledge lob, but Javier Hernández soon turned in an Alexander Büttner cross to level. In the second half United were reduced to ten men when Fabio was sent off five minutes after his introduction and as the game entered added time Wilfried Bony headed in a Routledge centre for Swansea's first-ever win at Old Trafford.

Two-time European champions Forest, chasing promotion to the Premier League from which West Ham are fighting relegation, beat the Londoners 4-0 in the 1991 semi-finals and had an equally happy day in their last-64 meeting. Djamel Abdoun made it 1-0 from the penalty spot on 13 minutes but it was after the hour mark that the hosts really took control, Jamie Paterson scoring a hat-trick in the space of 14 minutes and Andy Reid completing the victory against a young Hammers lineup.

West Ham have a midweek League Cup semi-final first leg against Manchester City FC while Sunderland AFC, who face Manchester United in  that competition on Tuesday, saw off Carlisle United FC 3-1. Goals from John Obi Mikel and Oscar ensured Chelsea won 2-0 at in-form second-tier team Derby County FC, and Liverpool defeated Oldham Athletic AFC by the same scoreline.
