Oxlade-Chamberlain hits double as Arsenal go top

Arsenal FC climbed to the Premier League summit with victory over Crystal Palace FC, on a day when Liverpool FC had to settle for a point at West Bromwich Albion FC.

Arsenal FC are top of the Premier League thanks to a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace FC on a day when Liverpool FC drew 1-1 at West Bromwich Albion FC.

With Manchester City FC not in action until Monday evening, Arsenal knew that a win against Palace would put them top of the pile by two points. Though the north London club did not have it all their own way in a frustrating first half, they increased the tempo after the interval and forged ahead via Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's neat finish over Julian Speroni.

Yannick Bolasie spurned a great chance to equalise for Tony Pulis' men as his header was repelled by Wojciech Szczęsny. Oxlade-Chamberlain then put the result beyond doubt 17 minutes from time with a low finish into the bottom right-hand corner.

Earlier in the day, Liverpool were held at West Brom. Luis Suárez and Daniel Sturridge combined for the first-half opener, with the latter tapping in from close range. However, the Merseyside club were pegged back when Victor Anichebe pounced on a loose Kolo Touré pass and drove a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner from the edge of the area.
