Arsenal FC remain second in the Premier League after drawing 0-0 at home with Manchester United FC on what was a good night for Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC.
Having lost top spot to Chelsea FC at the weekend following their 5-1 defeat by Liverpool, Arsenal would have displaced the Blues – who drew with West Bromwich Albion FC on Tuesday – with a win. As it turned out, a header from Laurent Koscielny, cleared from under the bar by Antonio Valencia, was the closest either side came to a breakthrough in north London.
Fourth-placed Liverpool left it late to overcome struggling Fulham FC, who led twice, 3-2 and are now just four points off the pace. Daniel Sturridge, on target for the eighth successive match, cancelled out Kolo Touré's early own goal. Steven Gerrard sealed victory for the Reds with a late penalty, Coutinho having replied to Kieran Richardson's 63rd-minute strike for the hosts.
Tottenham Hotspur FC consolidated fifth position with a 4-0 triumph at Newcastle United FC, who have lost their last three. Emmanuel Adebayor scored twice for Tim Sherwood's men at St James' Park, taking his tally for the campaign to eight.
Stoke City FC and Swansea City AFC drew 1-1. Manchester City FC's home game against Sunderland AFC and Crystal Palace FC's trip to Everton FC were postponed.
