Sunderland end Mourinho run, dent Chelsea hopes

Bottom club Sunderland AFC inflicted a major blow on Chelsea FC's title hopes, their 2-1 win ending José Mourinho's 77-game unbeaten home Premier League record as Blues manager.

Chelsea FC's title aspirations suffered a major setback as bottom-of-the-table Sunderland AFC inflicted José Mourinho's first home league loss in his two spells as manager of the west London club.

Leaders Liverpool FC sit two points ahead of the Blues with a game in hand – at Nowich City FC tomorrow – after Fabio Borini's 82nd-minute penalty brought to an end Mourinho's 77-game unbeaten Premier League run at Stamford Bridge.

It appeared the hosts would be going top when Samuel Eto'o struck from a 12th-minute corner, but Connor Wickham soon drew Sunderland level, following up to equalise after Mark Schwarzer had parried a Marcos Alonso shot from the edge of the area.

The Black Cats landed the decisive blow when former Chelsea forward Borini, on loan from Liverpool, calmly converted from the spot after César Azpilicueta brought down substitute Jozy Altidore.

In the early fixture, Tottenham Hotspur FC defeated lowly Fulham FC 3-1 at White Hart Lane before the Cottagers' fellow strugglers Cardiff City FC drew 1-1 with Stoke City FC.

Swansea City AFC moved six points clear of the relegation zone after Wilfried Bony's double helped them come from behind to triumph 2-1 at Newcastle United FC. It finished goalless between Aston Villa FC and Southampton FC, while Crystal Palace FC made it five wins in succession with a 1-0 victory at West Ham United FC.
