Chelsea FC spurned the opportunity to go top of the Premier League after drawing 0-0 with Norwich City FC, on day when Arsenal FC edged West Bromwich Albion FC 1-0.
On the back foot for long stretches at Stamford Bridge, the visitors looked in little danger of conceding until André Schürrle darted inside and caressed a shot against the far post. The introduction of Eden Hazard sparked Chelsea into life after the restart, but the woodwork denied them again as David Luiz crashed Branislav Ivanović's pass towards goal.
A fine run and shot from Hazard on 82 minutes almost yielded a breakthrough, but visiting goalkeeper John Ruddy was down well to save and earn third-bottom Norwich a draw in their unlikely bid for survival. As for José Mourinho's side, they lie a point behind Liverpool FC and frontrunners Manchester City FC, both of whom have two games to play.
Earlier in the day, Olivier Giroud's 16th goal of the season proved sufficient for Arsenal to record their fourth consecutive Premier League success. Santi Cazorla unlocked the West Brom defence on 14 minutes with a sweeping corner from which Giroud executed a clinical header. The Gunners, already assured a place in next season's UEFA Champions League play-offs, face Hull City AFC in the FA Cup final in a fortnight's time.
