Fowler to complete City u-turn

Leeds United AFC striker Robbie Fowler has agreed a €9m move to Manchester City FC.
Leeds United AFC striker Robbie Fowler has agreed a €9m move to Manchester City FC and will sign for the English Premiership club on Thursday, Leeds announced on their website today.

Fowler 'ready' for Maine Road
Fowler, 27, has agreed a three-and-a-half year contract after speaking to City manager Kevin Keegan today and telling him he was now ready to join the Maine Road club. The England forward had been widely expected to move to City earlier this month in a €10.6m deal agreed by the two clubs - only for Fowler to pull out at the last minute after passing a medical.

Bernstein comments
"The deal has not been signed at the moment, but it is ready to be done," confirmed City chairman David Bernstein. "We have agreed a £3m [€4.5m] fee with Leeds United with a further £3m [€4.5m] based on quite a number of appearances."

Thursday training
It is not expected that Fowler will be at Maine Road on tonight for City's game against Fulham FC but he will train with his new team-mates tomorrow morning after completing the formalities of the deal.

Young player awards
England's young player of the year in 1995 and 1996, Fowler left his beloved Liverpool FC for Leeds in November 2001 for €17.5m. Because of injuries, he has seldom reproduced the form at Elland Road which earned him the simple nickname 'God' at Anfield, the club he joined as a trainee and made his debut for at the age of 18.

Hip injury
A member of England's 2002 FIFA World Cup squad, Fowler aggravated a hip injury in the Far East which required an operation in the summer, forcing him on to the sidelines until December.

Cup success
Fowler showed his quality in Liverpool's UEFA Cup final defeat of Deportivo Alavés in 2001, scoring as a substitute in a 5-4 success in Dortmund. The success capped a memorable few weeks for club and player, as Fowler had earlier recovered from injury to captain Gérard Houllier's side to FA Cup and League Cup glory.
