Real Madrid CF maintained their winning form by posting a 2-1 triumph at Real Sociedad de Fútbol, earning themselves three points along with RCD Mallorca and RCD Espanyol.
Victorious against CA Osasuna last Saturday and AFC Ajax in midweek, José Mourinho's side put themselves top of the pile in the Spanish Liga thanks to a pair of second-half goals. Summer signing Ángel Di María opened his Madrid tally with an exquisite swerving shot six minutes after the break, but it took Cristiano Ronaldo's deflected free-kick 18 minutes from the end to earn the spoils after Raúl Tamudo had restored parity.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Athletic Club recovered from two goals down to draw 2-2 away against Real Sporting de Gijón. Spanish international striker Fernando Llorente sealed a share of the points in the 58th minute after Carlos Gurpegi had halved the early lead established by Miguel de las Cuevas and Gaston Sangoy.
There was no comeback for CA Osasuna, on the other hand, as they were left still looking for a first win this season after succumbing 2-0 at Mallorca, where coach Michael Laudrup celebrated his maiden success at the helm. Lastly, Espanyol saw off UD Almería 1-0.
