Málaga and Ferreira go their separate ways

Former FC Porto coach Jesualdo Ferreira has left Málaga CF after four and a half months at the helm, with the club 18th in the Spanish Liga after picking up seven points in nine games.

Liga strugglers Málaga CF have parted company with coach Jesualdo Ferreira just five months after hiring the 64-year-old.

A three-time league winner with FC Porto, Ferreira has endured a difficult start to life at La Romareda. A 2-1 defeat by Real Sociedad de Fútbol left Los Boquerones third from bottom in the 20-team division, with the worst defensive record in the top flight. After one point from five league outings, club officials decided it was time for a change.

"We wish Jesualdo Ferreira the best of luck in his future endeavours and professional career," a statement read. Youth team coach Rafa Gil will take temporary charge until a replacement is found. Málaga are away to RCD Espanyol on Saturday.
