A first-minute goal from Javier Márquez earned RCD Espanyol a 1-0 victory over Málaga CF which lifts Mauricio Pochettino's team into fourth spot in the Liga.
Márquez, receiving the ball some 30 metres from goal, fired left-footed into the top corner of Francesc Arnau's goal with less than 60 seconds on the clock at the Estadi Cornellà-El Prat. The victory ensures Espanyol will remain in fourth place until at least Monday, when Valencia CF − a point behind − play Sevilla FC. Málaga, who appointed Manuel Pellegrini this week following the departure of Jesualdo Ferreira, remain third bottom.
In the day's other game, Real Sociedad de Fútbol defeated Real Racing Club 1-0 thanks to Joseba Llorente's seventh-minute strike. Sunday's highlights include Real Madrid CF against Club Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona's trip to Getafe CF.
