Club Atlético de Madrid striker Sergio Agüero said he was happy to remain at "one of the best clubs in the world" after extending his contract with the Rojiblancos until June 2014.
The 22-year-old − whose previous deal was due to expire in 2012 – is continuing to enjoy life in the Spanish capital following his transfer to the Vicente Calderón from CA Independiente in summer 2006. "I've been treated exceptionally well here since I moved when I was just 17," explained the Argentinian international. "I'm very happy at Atlético and that's why I agreed to extend my stay."
A scorer of 62 goals in 159 Liga appearances for the Colchoneros, Agüero won the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup last year, doubling his team's lead in the latter match against FC Internazionale Milano. Atlético are seventh in the Liga, ten points shy of fourth place, and were eliminated from the UEFA Europa League in the group stage.
"I'm firmly focused on the games we have remaining and although it seems like a difficult objective at the moment, our desire remains to qualify for the [UEFA] Champions League," added Agüero.
