Former RC Deportivo La Coruña and Valencia CF defender Miroslav Djukić has been named the new coach of Hércules CF, coming in to replace Esteban Vigo who was dismissed in the wake of Sunday's 4-0 Spanish Liga home loss to CA Osasuna.
The 45-year-old Serb, who was capped 48 times by Yugoslavia, will take charge of his first training session today having been given nine games to save rock-bottom Hércules from relegation. The Alicante club are in 20th position in the 20-team Liga, lying four points from safety.
Djukić spent 14 seasons in Spain as a player – starting with Deportivo before winning the 2001/02 Liga title with Valencia and then finishing his career at CD Tenerife. As a coach, he led Serbia to the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals before spells at the helms of FK Partizan and Belgian side R. Excelsior Mouscron.
