Valencia CF's Vicente Guaita has signed a three-year contract extension, terms intended to keep the 24-year-old goalkeeper at Mestalla until June 2015.
Guaita, whose previous deal was due to expire next summer, made a big impression when he was called into the Valencia team last November after injuries to César Sánchez and Miguel Ángel Moyà. After a notable performance in his side's 1-1 draw at Manchester United FC in the UEFA Champions League group stage, the Valencia-born keeper kept his place and went on to make 28 appearances in all competitions as the Blanquinegros finished third in the Liga.
"Without work and a lot of humility you won't achieve anything in life," Guaita told children at his former school in the town of Torrent, near Valencia. "I started out with this team when I was 13. I was your age and looked at Valencia as something really big. If you always have hope, make a huge effort and listen to your parents then little by little you start to achieve things. It's the most wonderful thing in the world being the goalkeeper of my home-town side."
