Real Madrid CF continued their impressive start to the season with a clinical 4-2 win against Getafe CF with Valencia CF joining them on maximum points after overcoming Club Atlético de Madrid, while FC Barcelona drew 2-2 at Real Sociedad de Fútbol, having taken a two-goal lead.
Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Madrid on 14 minutes before Miku equalised against the run of play. José Mourinho's side took control in the second-half with Cristiano Ronaldo converting from the spot before his exquisite ball found Benzema, who finished with aplomb. Getafe were given hope when Miku doubled his tally seven minutes from time before Gonzalo Higuain rounded off the scoring.
In the late kick-off, Roberto Soldado's fourth goal of the season secured a 1-0 home victory for Valencia to take them second.
Earlier, Real Sociedad earned a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Barcelona after going 2-0 down early on. Quick-fire goals from Xavi Hernández and Cesc Fàbregas gave the Catalan side the advantage with only 12 minutes on the clock before the hosts struck back in the second-half, Imanol Agirretxe and Antoine Griezmannas scoring within two minutes of each other.
There was another dramatic 2-2 draw at El Madrigal where Villarreal CF and Sevilla FC shared the spoils. The home side were reduced to ten men when goalkeeper Diego López was sent off - Álvaro Negredo saw his resulting penalty saved by César Sánchez before tucking away the rebound. Villarreal were awarded a penalty of their own moments later - Giuseppe Rossi making no mistake. Marco Ruben looked to have secured all three points for his side only for Alexis to equalise with four minutes remaining.
