Resino replaces Fabri at struggling Granada

Granada CF have charged Abel Resino with the task of keeping them in the Spanish top flight after appointing the former Club Atlético de Madrid coach until the end of the season.

Abel Resino has taken the reins at struggling Granada CF until the end of the season following the dismissal of coach Fabri González.

The 51-year-old Resino replaces Fabri, who led Granada into the Liga with successive promotions but was relieved of his duties after a run of four defeats in five games left them third bottom. Resino's coaching career has taken in spells at CF Ciudad de Murcia, Levante UD, CD Castellón, a brief stint at Club Atlético de Madrid in 2009, and Real Valladolid CF.

A former Atlético goalkeeper, Resino spent 13 years at the Vicente Calderón where he set the current Liga record for most minutes without conceding a goal – 1,275. His first task at Granada will be a trip to Real Betis Balompié on Sunday.
