Málaga make strides after Racing success

Málaga CF enhanced their prospects of qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League by overcoming Real Racing Club 3-0 to move up to third place in the Liga.

Málaga CF enhanced their chances of qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League by completing a comfortable 3-0 victory against ten-man Real Racing Club.

Isco's first-half strike and goals after the interval by Santi Cazorla and Ruud van Nistelrooy ensured Manuel Pellegrini's charges overcame the club from Santander to move up to third place in the Liga standings. Though the hosts made a confident start their cause was helped by the early dismissal of Racing defender Francis, who was shown a red card after just three minutes.

Málaga took full advantage of their numerial superiority as Spanish Under-21 international Isco gave the hosts the lead midway through the first half, while Cazorla registered his seventh league goal of the season on 64 minutes and substitute Van Nistelrooy added a third six minutes from time. Málaga lie one point clear of Valencia CF after 31 matches.
