Real Sociedad de Fútbol maintained their mid-season momentum with a 2-1 home win against Sevilla FC on an evening when RCD Espanyol and Rayo Vallecano de Madrid also prevailed. 

Mexican international Carlos Vela gave Philippe Montanier's team the perfect start after 18 minutes with his sixth goal of the season, before Gary Medel levelled shortly after the break. Alberto De La Bella restored the hosts' advantage, while Sevilla's task became an arduous one when Jorge Andújar Moreno was sent off. 

Goals in either half from Simão and Christian Stuani proved sufficient for Espanyol to claim a 2-0 win against bottom club RC Deportivo La Coruña, whose winless sequence stands at seven league games. In the early kick-off, meanwhile, Rayo Vallecano defeated Levante UD 3-0. Second-half strikes from Piti and José Ignacio Martínez García put them in a commanding position, before Franco Vázquez completed the formalities.
