A fourth Liga defeat in six matches – the latest coming at Getafe CF on Saturday – has caused RC Celta de Vigo to part company with coach Paco Herrera and appoint Abel Resino as his replacement.
Former Real Sporting de Gijón, Levante UD and CD Badajoz midfielder Herrera, 59, had been in charge of Celta since 2010, leading them to promotion last season. However, a meagre total of five victories from 24 Liga outings this term has left the Galician side third from bottom, prompting the change in personnel.
"Having previously come close to guiding Celta to promotion, Paco Herrera managed to do so last season, playing good football and using many players from the youth setup," a club statement read. "We wish him every success in the future."
A former Club Atlético de Madrid goalkeeper, Abel Resino, 53, had a spell at the helm of the Rojiblancos in 2009. He had gained previous coaching experience with CF Ciudad de Murcia, Levante, CD Castellón, Real Valladolid CF and Granada CF, where he will take his new Celta team this weekend.
