CA Osasuna have reacted to three successive defeats at the start of the Liga season by dismissing boss José Luis Mendilibar.
The 52-year-old is the first Spanish top-flight coach to lose his job this term. Beaten 2-1 at home by Granada CF on the opening weekend, the Pamplona side then lost 2-0 at Athletic Club and, last Saturday, 3-0 to visiting Villarreal CF.
In a statement on the Osasuna website, president Miguel Archanco said: "We have analysed the style of play and the results from the first three games of this season and the final nine games of last season and have come to this decision."
Mendilibar succeeded José Antonio Camacho at El Sadar in February 2011 and steered the team to seventh and 16th-place finishes in his two full campaigns in charge.
A midfielder in his playing days, mainly in the second tier, Mendilibar has previously coached in the Liga with Athletic and Real Valladolid CF, from where he was sacked in February 2010. Osasuna go to Getafe CF on 15 September for their first match after the international break.
