Athletic Club end Barcelona's unbeaten run

FC Barcelona lost in the Liga for the first time in nine months, Iker Muniain scoring the only goal with 20 minutes left at San Mamés as Athletic Club moved into the top four.

Iker Muniain scored the only goal as Athletic Club condemned FC Barcelona to their second defeat of the week and first in the Liga since 2 March.

Having lost for the first time as Blaugrana coach on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League against AFC Ajax, Gerardo Martino watched his side succumb on the road again. Muniain turned in what proved to be the winner with 20 minutes remaining, meeting at close range Markel Susaeta's cross from the right.

Consequently, Barcelona are level on points at the top of the table with Club Atlético de Madrid and three clear of the last team to beat them in the Spanish top flight, Real Madrid CF. Athletic, unbeaten at home this season, rise one place to fourth.

Meanwhile, Jonas inspired Valencia CF to their first win in three league games – 3-0 against CA Osasuna. The Brazilian international scored an eight-minute hat-trick either side of half-time at Mestalla, his second goal a sumptuous volley from Sofiane Feghouli's cross.

Elsewhere, an 87th-minute goal from Kevin Gameiro earned Sevilla FC a 2-1 victory at Granada CF, the Andalusian side's third consecutive top-flight success. Their city rivals, Real Betis Balompié, drew 2-2 at home with Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, for whom Alberto Bueno equalised in added time with his second of the match.
