Duscher saves Depor

Spanish Cup holders RC Deportivo La Coruña struck late to defeat Real Murcia in their quarter-final first leg.

Spanish Cup holders RC Deportivo La Coruña needed a late Aldo Duscher strike to beat second division Real Murcia 1-0 tonight and establish a slim advantage to take into next week's quarter-final second leg.

Tipped for promotion
Primera División Deportivo were limited to a couple of first-half chances as Murcia showed why they are strongly tipped for promotion with some neat passing and a disciplined defensive display.

Back-heeled effort
Javier Irureta's side began to increasingly trouble the visitors as the second half wore on, though, with Alberto Luque just missing with a stylish back-heel from a Manuel Pablo García cross.

Squeezed in
With five minutes to go Manuel Pablo set off on another run down the right and this time his efforts brought success, as the Murcia defence could only clear his cross as far as Argentinian Duscher, who squeezed in a shot at the near post.

Recreativo triumph
RC Recreativo de Huelva were the other victorious side on Wednesday, a spectacular free-kick from Emilio Viqueira giving them a 1-0 win at home to Club Atlético de Madrid. The match between Sevilla FC and Club Atlético Osasuna ended 1-1.

Madrid next
Real Madrid CF, beaten by Deportivo in last year's final are at home against Mallorca in the first leg of their quarter-final on Thursday.
