Real Madrid CF star Ronaldo was honoured at the sporting Oscars in Monaco on Tuesday night, the Laureus World Sports Awards.
The 26-year-old Brazilian picked up the prize for Comeback of the Year following his performances at last summer's FIFA World Cup. Ronaldo also accepted the Team of the Year award on behalf of his international colleagues who were victorious in that competition.
World Cup wonder
Ronaldo recovered from serious knee injuries to score eight times for his country in Korea/Japan, including both Brazil's goals in the final against Germany. Brazil claimed the team prize ahead of the centre-forward's club side Real Madrid, European champions in 2002.
However, Ronaldo missed out in the Sportsman of the Year category to Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong. Meanwhile, Everton FC's English international striker Wayne Rooney failed to win the Best Newcomer award as the panel of sports personalities voted for Chinese basketball player Yao Ming.
