Real Zaragoza have made Spanish Under-21 international David Villa their first signing of the summer.
'I want to prove myself'
The newly promoted Romareda club have paid Sporting Gijón €2.7m for the striker, who will be 22 in December. "I want to prove that I can play at this level," said Villa. "My goal was to play in the first division and Zaragoza was my first option."
'Jewel in the crown'
Zaragoza had agreed terms with Villa several weeks ago, but only completed a deal with second division Sporting this week. "Negotiations have been complicated as Villa was the jewel in Sporting's crown. It wasn't an easy deal to make," Zaragoza director Miguel Pardeza said.
