Levadia complete Estonian double

"We didn't play very well, but we are happy because the Estonian Cup is ours," said FC Levadia Tallinn coach Marko Kristal as his side followed up their league title to complete the double.

FC Levadia Tallinn, who clinched the Estonian title last autumn, have completed a domestic double with a 4-0 defeat of third division Tartu FC Santos in the Estonian Cup final.

Algimantas Liubinskas' amateur outfit gave their all, but were always up against it facing a side that claimed their eighth Estonian league crown in 2013. First-half strikes from Vladislav Ivanov and Ingemar Teever were supplemented by Heiko Tamm and a late second for Ivanov as the Talinn-based side eased to victory. "We didn't play very well, but we are happy because the cup is ours," said Levadia coach Marko Kristal.

Levadia converted their first chance on ten minutes, setting the tone for the contest, Ivanov exploiting a mix-up between Santos' centre-backs to convert a perfect right-wing cross. Much of the match was played in the Santos half, and although an unmarked Alar Alve failed to convert a rare opportunity from close range, Levadia were two to the good on 30 minutes. Teever just beat defender Eero Eessaar to knock in Artur Pikk's delivery from the left.

The pattern remained unchanged after half-time, Santos weathering storms and attempting to break. The Levadia defence were taxed at times but put the game beyond their valiant opponents on 80 minutes. Ivanov's movement opened space for substitute Tamm to find the far corner. Eight minutes later Ivanov completed his double from Pikk's smart pass. "I can honestly say that it was a tough match. It wasn't easy at all to win today. We made a lot of mistakes, but, fortunately, scored some goals," said Pikk.

"It was very hard for us. Levadia are a very strong team, one of the best in the whole country. But there is no reason to be upset," said Santos' Alve, whose sentiments were echoed by his coach. "Today you could see the difference in class," said Liubinskas. "A bit more accurate and quicker; that makes a final result. A third-tier team could hardly beat the champions."
