UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009 has been named Finland's sports event of the year at the annual Suomen urheilugaala awards, while striker Laura Österberg-Kalmari was chosen as best role model.

UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009 has been named Finland's sports event of the year at the annual Suomen urheilugaala awards ceremony.

The tournament, which ran from 23 August to 10 September, was a huge success, with the hosts' opening game, against Denmark, attracting a crowd of 16,324 supporters – a record for a women's international in Finland. Striker Laura Österberg-Kalmari, whose two goals helped Finland reach the quarter-finals, was chosen as Role Model of the Year at the Annual Sports Gala.
