The Ligue 1 leaders LOSC Lille Métropole can move seven points clear on Sunday after second-placed Paris Saint-Germain FC lost 1-0 at Stade Rennais FC.
PSG travelled to Stade de la Route de Lorient with a three-point advantage over Rennes but were beaten by Yacine Brahimi's run and shot (19) from the edge of the area. The win lifts Frédéric Antonetti's side level on 37 points with the capital club, and one ahead of Olympique de Marseille after the champions accounted for the bottom team, AC Arles-Avignon.
OM were booed off by the Stade Vélodrome faithful despite André-Pierre Gignac's 55th-minute goal keeping them firmly in the title hunt. A place and a point further back are AS Saint-Étienne, for whom Emmanuel Rivière scored twice in a 2-1 win at Montpellier Hérault SC, who slipped to seventh.
At the other end, RC Lens remained in the relegation zone following a 1-1 home draw with neighbours Valenciennes FC, while SM Caen slipped to 17th after suffering a 2-0 defeat by visitors FC Lorient. Stade Brestois 29 (2-1 v AS Nancy-Lorraine) and OGC Nice (1-0 v FC Sochaux-Montbéliard) were the other winners.
Lille travel to AJ Auxerre on Sunday, when Olympique Lyonnais (in sixth on 34 points) take on FC Girondins de Bordeaux and Toulouse FC tackle AS Monaco FC.
