Olympique Lyonnais laid down the gauntlet to Ligue 1 leaders LOSC Lille Métropole and the chasing pack by moving up to second in the table with a 4-0 victory at home to AS Nancy-Lorraine.
Claude Puel's side were missing Hugo Lloris through illness and started with Michel Bastos on the bench with their UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg at home to Real Madrid CF on Tuesday in mind. It mattered little as the home side took a 37th-minute lead when Yoann Gourcuff scored after fine work from Bafétimbi Gomis and Jérémy Toulalan, although Youssouf Hadji missed a penalty to restore parity before the interval.
Lyon made the visitors pay for that profligacy with three goals in the final 14 minutes. Substitute Jérémy Pied made it 2-0 seven minutes after coming on with Miralem Pjanić (86) and Jimmy Briand (89) roundind off a resounding success. The only black mark for Puel was the unavailability of Lisandro after he picked up a hamstring injury on Thursday which leaves the Argentina striker doubtful for the Madrid match.
