France round-up: Lyon too strong for Troyes

Olympique Lyonnais held on to their slim French title hopes on Saturday with a 3-1 win.

Olympique Lyonnais held on to their slim title hopes on Saturday with a 3-1 defeat of ES Troyes Aube Champagne.

Anderson inspires Lyon
Lyon's inspirational captain Sonny Anderson was the key player for the home side, who were forced to fight back from 1-0 down after striker Nicolas Gousse scored with a superb lob in the 22nd minute to put Troyes ahead. Brazilian Anderson set up Lyon's first goal, passing to midfield player Eric Carrière who equalised from close range on the half-hour mark.

Decisive second half
Anderson then gave the hosts the lead 45 seconds after the break, before defender Christophe Delmotte put the result beyond doubt with a powerful 20-metre shot in the 78th minute. Lyon are now four points behind leaders RC Lens, who have a game in hand. Elsewhere in Le Championnat, struggling FC Metz were held to a goalless home draw by Montpellier Hérault.
