Marseille continue forward march at Rennes

Olympique de Marseille fought back from falling a goal down to clinch a 2-1 triumph at Stade Rennais FC that hauled them above the Brittany club into fifth spot in Ligue 1.

Olympique de Marseille have leapfrogged Stade Rennais FC into fifth spot in Ligue 1 after completing a 2-1 comeback victory away against the Brittany side.

The visitors fell behind on 14 minutes when Tongo Hamed Doumbia buried the ball from distance via a deflection, and they could have conceded again before levelling against the run of play close to half-time. Loïc Rémy swung in a cross from the left and defender Onyekachi Apam headed the ball into his own net, a moment of good fortune that Marseille built on when Benoît Cheyrou collected Mathieu Valbuena's pass and delivered a fierce finish with 13 minutes to go.

Also on Sunday, AC Ajaccio climbed out of the relegation zone into 15th spot courtesy of a dramatic 2-1 win at Valenciennes FC. Pegged back by Vincent Aboubakar's equaliser shortly after the restart, the Corsican club then lost Paul Lasne to a second yellow card with 16 minutes remaining. Instead of wilting, however, they secured a fourth consecutive league success when substitute Christian Kinkela curled in an added-time winner.

The match between Évian Thonon Gaillard FC and FC Girondins de Bordeaux ended goalless, finally, with Cédric Carrasso provoking and saving a penalty for Bordeaux.
