Le Championnat contenders Olympique Lyonnais faltered on Sunday with a 2-1 defeat against FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
There was joy for leaders RC Lens at the Bonal stadium as Lyon failed to stamp their authority on their mid-table opponents and ended up being sunk by Pierre-Alain Frau's 70th-minute winner for Sochaux. Frau got on the end of a Jimmy Algerino cross to settle the game with a spectacular overhead kick to leave Lyon reeling.
Two goals for Govou
Lyon's Sidney Govou had a dramatic afternoon in Montbéliard. The French under-21 international had the misfortune to deflect a Maxence Flachez shot into his own net five minutes before the break to give Sochaux a 1-0 lead, but subsequently got on the end of Eric Carrière's pass to score an equaliser from close range five minutes after the break.
The defeat leaves Lyon five points adrift of Lens, who won 2-1 away at Montpellier Hérault SC on Saturday, and have a game in hand.
Dominated from the start
Lille OSC beat Olympique de Marseille 2-0 in Sunday's late game in France. LOSC dominated from the start and deserved to take the lead through a 34th-minute penalty by Bruno Cheyrou after a foul on Salaheddine Bassir by Marseille's Belgian defender Daniel van Buyten. LOSC wrapped up the game with a goal from Dagui Bakari in added time, handing the hosts their first home win in 2002.
