St-Etienne end PSG's unbeaten Ligue 1 run

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was involved in both AS Saint-Étienne goals as they inflicted a first Ligue 1 defeat of the season on Paris Saint-Germain FC, who had Zlatan Ibrahimović sent off.

Zlatan Ibrahimović was shown a straight red card as Paris Saint-Germain FC lost for their first time in Ligue 1 this term, 2-1 at home to AS Saint-Étienne.

Carlo Ancelotti's first Parc des Princes league loss was as good as sealed in the 73rd minute, when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang − who provided the cross which Mamadou Sakho turned into his own net early in the second half – finished off a square ball from Alejandro Alonso.

Three minutes earlier Ibrahimović had been dismissed for a high challenge on outrushing Les Verts goalkeeper Stéphane Ruffier. Guillaume Hoarau halved arrears with a neat half-volley, but it was too little, too late.

That means Olympique de Marseille, who have played two games fewer than the leader, and Toulouse FC will draw level on points with PSG if they defeat AC Ajaccio and FC Girondins de Bordeaux respectively on Sunday.

Valenciennes FC are fourth, one place above St-Etienne, following a 3-1 defeat of FC Sochaux-Montbéliard. There was contrasting results, meanwhile, for LOSC Lille and Montpellier Hérault SC, like PSG in UEFA Champions League action next week. Improving LOSC won 2-0 at  Évian Thonon Gaillard FC and the champions drew 1-1 with ES Troyes Aube Champagne.
