Paris Saint-Germain FC's winless Ligue 1 streak extended to three matches after they succumbed 2-1 at home to nine-man Stade Rennais FC.
Rennes' Romain Alessandrini opened the scoring with an excellent drive from 25 metres, before Nenê's sumptuous chip levelled matters. The visitors suffered a blow when goalkeeper Benoît Costil was shown a straight red card for fouling Jérémy Ménez just outside the area, but Rennes found themselves 2-1 up at the interval courtesy of Julien Feret's low free-kick.
A breathless match took another twist early in the second period when Jean Makoun received his marching orders, leaving Rennes to play almost 40 minutes with nine men. Shorn of the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimović, PSG had 16 corners and struck the bar and a post as the game went on, but failed to find a way past inspired substitute custodian Cheick Ndiaye.
PSG (23 points) remain top on goal difference from Olympique de Marseille, who, along with third-placed Olympique Lyonnais, have two games in hand. AS Saint-Étienne and Valenciennes FC could have displaced Carlo Ancelotti's side, but could only manage draws against Évian Thonon Gaillard FC (2-2) and Montpellier Hérault SC (1-1) respectively.
They now sit third and fourth, joining Lyon (5th) and Rennes (6th) on 22 points in a closely contested league.
