Olympique Lyonnais are flying high at the top of France's Ligue 1 after overcoming champions Montpellier Hérault SC 1-0 at Stade de Gerland.

Forward Bafétimbi Gomis, hat-trick hero in Lyon's 4-1 midweek triumph at Olympique de Marseille, was the key man again, netting in the 26th minute. Gomis' tenth top-flight goal this term also lifted Rémi Garde's team five points clear of Paris Saint-Germain FC, who lost 2-1 at OGC Nice. All the scoring came between the 76th and 86th minutes in the Mediterranean city as efforts from Éric Bautheac and Valentin Eysseric sandwiched a Zlatan Ibrahimović strike.

As one of three sides level on 26 points, the Parisians are eclipsed for second spot by AS Saint-Étienne – held 0-0 at AC Ajaccio on Friday – with Marseille in fourth.

FC Girondins de Bordeaux had cause to regret a late equaliser from Rafael Marques Dias De Brito in their 2-2 home draw with FC Sochaux-Montbéliard. Elsewhere, fifth-placed Valenciennes FC won 1-0 at home to Stade de Reims Champagne, it finished 0-0 between LOSC Lille and SC Bastia, and bottom club AS Nancy-Lorraine earned a 1-1 draw at Évian Thonon Gaillard FC.
